Optical corrosion sensor based on fiber Bragg grating electroplated with Fe-C film

چکیده
An optical fiber corrosion sensor (OFCS) based on iron-carbon (Fe-C) film was researched. OFCS was formed by electroplating a Fe-C film on fiber Bragg grating (FBG)metalized with silver film bymagnetron sputtering. There was a more than 430-pm change of FBG wavelength when Fe-C film was seriously corroded. Compared to electrochemical method, the optical fiber sensor shows dominance in long-lasting monitoring of corrosion. The electric signal was broken off after the 20-h corrosion of Fe-C film, while the optical fiber sensor’s monitoring lasted more than 40 days. © The Authors. A Noncontact Force Sensor Based on a Fiber Bragg Grating and Its Application for Corrosion Measurement
A simple noncontact force sensor based on an optical fiber Bragg grating attached to a small magnet has been proposed and built. The sensor measures the force between the magnet and any ferromagnetic material placed within a few millimeters of the sensor. Maintaining the sensor at a constant standoff distance, material loss due to corrosion increases the distance between the magnet and the corr...

In this paper, the fractal dimensions are proposed for characterizing the optical fiber corrosion sensors, which is applied to measure the steel corrosion based on Fe-C alloy film. Because corrosion was a complex random phenomenon and the corrosion surface of Fe-C alloy film of the optical fiber corrosion sensor possessed fractal characteristics, the image fractal dimensions is as a quantitativ...
متن کاملOptical-Based Sensors for Monitoring Corrosion of Reinforcement Rebar via an Etched Cladding Bragg Grating
In this paper, we present the development and testing of an optical-based sensor for monitoring the corrosion of reinforcement rebar. The testing was carried out using an 80% etched-cladding Fibre Bragg grating sensor to monitor the production of corrosion waste in a localized region of the rebar. Progression of corrosion can be sensed by observing the reflected wavelength shift of the FBG sens...

A miniature sensor for accurate measurement of pressure (depth) with temperature compensation in the ocean environment is described. The sensor is based on an optical fibre Extrinsic Fabry-Perot interferometer (EFPI) combined with a Fibre Bragg Grating (FBG). The EFPI provides pressure measurements while the Fibre Bragg Grating (FBG) provides temperature measurements. The sensor is mechanically...
متن کاملOptimization of Bistability in Nonlinear Chalcogenide Fiber Bragg Grating for All Optical Switch and Memory Applications
We solve the coupled mode equations governing the chalcogenide nonlinear fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) numerically, and obtain the bistability characteristics. The characteristics of the chalcogenide nonlinear FBGs such as: switching threshold intensity, bistability interval and on-off switching ratio are studied. The effects of FBG length and its third order nonlinear refractive index on FBG cha...
